Introduction

My turtle's name is Max. He is just a baby; his shell is just a little bigger than a quarter. He (or she, I don't really know) is a yellow-eared slider. The red-eared slider is more common, but Max is obviously a yellow-eared slider. He is adorable! My mother found him for me in the parking lot at work. I literally had just told her that I want a pet turtle, and the next day she found one and brought him home for me!
Right now, he is a grumpy turtle. I had to make him a makeshift home while I worked on purchasing a 10 gallon tank. While he was in this home, his shell started to become soft, even though he had a perfectly adequate dry spot for sun bathing as well as a little cave to go into for shelter. He just preferred to be in the water a lot...
So, for the past week he has been out of the water, regaining the hardness in his shell. Of course, he gets to be in the water twice daily during his meal times, otherwise he would have probably died by now.
His shell is much stronger now and I have a tank for him. I just do not want to put him into the tank until I have a turtle dock for him. I can't seem to find one where I live, so I will just have to keep searching.
His food water has to get cleaned basically every other or every three days. Turtles are such messy eaters! I did not buy a turtle tank, which has a built in divide between the living habitat and the eating habitat, just a regular 10 gallon tank.
Max also gets a good rinsing or a "bath" every week. He tends to get food particles stuck to himself. He is such a messy little guy! He is mostly grumpy because he just had said bath.
Max is a silly little turtle and I love him dearly!

Til Next Time, Megan.
